A picture has started to emerge

A picture has started to emerge.

When I joined IIM L, i have mixed emotions. What would happen? When I will be able to sit through the lectures? Whether I will get a job or not.

A week into the program, it was replaced by constantly changing subjects and professors and their respective pedagogy. I was confused. It all looked like information overload.

We started to attack MBA with understanding of case studies. Once, we were through with this, all other professors jumped in with their respective knowledge areas. Everyone has been trying very hard, in their own unique ways, to help us understand what happens!!!!!

To be honest, somewhere during the middle of the term, i started asking myself this question : is it all worth it? This is all common sense!! Why am I here!! I was happily working in one of the best companies (s/w domain), when this whole process of MBA started.

e.g we were doing linear programming, we were trying to suggest the ways a company can improve its profits (I mean c'mon, if a company doing business for Billions of Dollars can not identify, we sitting in a class using 4 page case study can understand and solve its problems). This all looks so superficial.

Then, somehow some magic happened. When I started thinking about it, everything started to fall in place. Everything that was/is being taunt to us, is so much interconnected. This is the first time, i started to have (hopefully) a birds view of the business. I knew that I knew so little, I never knew that so much little.

I guess not the foundation is shaping up. I hope it is a strong foundation.

I hope that marks that i may or may not score are not reflection of this foundation :) Read the full story »

One Month in MBA

[ Thursday, April 29, 2010 | 0 comments ]

As we are finishing our first month at IIM Lucknow, there are mixed feeling. Actually make it only a single feeling. We are tired, sleepless and most of us are way behind then what has been taught in the classroom.

Our subjects are quite varied. This is the code module, hence we can not skip anything. There is Marketing, Operations, QAB etc.. Sometimes it looks like that we are having information overload.

There have been quite a few eye opening sessions. e.g. we have had a session where multiple career options were discussed. Honestly, though I have been in IT industry for close to 12 years now, I still do not know so many things. That class confused me and made me think. What do I want to do?

More on that philosophical question later.

My favorite subject? Actually quite difficult to understand. There are so many of them. :). Accounting, Eco to a certain extent QAB.

There are so many things that I want to do in this one year. This is the only year when I can do something which i would have not been able to otherwise.

1 year MBA at IIM Lucknow, IPMX has started.
